Commissioner Factfile. Fim Four.

Who is the company?

The company I'm doing for this factfile about is film four productions. Film four productions is a company which produce films they make it themselves. Also they distribute films meaning they market their films they have physical copies of the film to sell. Film four productions also exhibit films as in they show the films. They have a combination of all three. An example of this would be the inbetweeners movie. Many copies were sold of it. Also film four productions produced the film and exhibited the movie as it was shown in cinemas and Film four.
The parent company is channel four. the parent company own Film four , E4, 4music and more4
I think there is advantage for the success of their films being owned by that parent company as it creates more publicity for the movie. There would be more adverts on all of these channels so more people would acknowledge.

What do the company produce?
The company usually fund around twenty films per year. This is the only company that provide the foment for their films. They are solo finders and co-ructions with other companies. Most of the movies they make are solo however they have had some films which have been co produced such has the eagle, lovely bones and four lions. On average Film
Four contributes most of the money for the films budget they invest over 500,000  per film. Film four contributes a lot to the development of British social realism. They try to show realistically the underclass life of the British. They often use rough camerawork, using real life locations. Also in most of these movies unknown actors are used with usually different accents from Across England.
They use very sensitive themes in ther work such as homesexuality, racism, violence and abuse.

Why is the company important to the film industry?
*To invest around £500,000 per film, at a rate of around 20 films a year
*To support international (including American) independent film-makers by co-investing in innovative and interesting foreign films.(http://www.bfi.org.uk/sites/bfi.org.uk/files/downloads/bfi-film-forever-2012-17.pdf)
Also they offer British films on sister channels such as Channel4.

What have been the key successes in the British film industry?
Flim four have created many successful films over the years. Examples of this would be my beautiful laundrette, slumdog millionaire, looking for eric, and This is England.

Where is the company based?
The films that Film four fund are usually British however they sometimes do fund independent US film makers. Such as the hit film Slumdog millionaire was funded by film four but also directed by an independednt American film maker.
Why is the company important to the UK film industry?
Film four are important to the UK film industry as the produce, exhibit and prepare copies of it themselves. The ethos of the company is to "develop new british talent and be leader of innovation in the British film industry" this is quoted from the pocket guide to filmfour on the 12AS blog. The most key successes as seen above of film four are Looking for Eric, This is England and Slumdog Millionaire. The successes of these films have launched many careers such as Ashely Walters who plays Dushane in topboy also Dev Patel and Ewan McGregor and the famous director Danny Boyle who directed Slumdog millionaire and 127 hours.
